Player Profile: TE/FB Adam Ewing

Sometimes because of your size you are force to make a position change coming from college to the NFL and that is the case with Bryant College TE Adam Ewing. Ewing who is 6-1 234 pounds has played some FB in college will try to make the NFL as a FB. Ewing has great speed at that size and has run a 4.49 in the 40 and is strong putting up over 24 reps of 225.

“The New England Patriots came in and where talking to my head coach and they where watching film and looking at my stats and said if I was 2 or 3 inches taller every team in the NFL would want me as a tight end,” said Ewing.

At first Ewing was frustrated with the fact that his height is the only think that is holding him back from being wanted by every NFL team as a tight end.

“Yea I was frustrated but you have to take your strengths with your weakness, so I figured that full back would be the place for me to make it in the NFL,” said Ewing. “I know I can do those things that a fullback does, one reason is because I have played tight end and I had to be physically. I have done some lead blocking when I went in motion and played some fullback in goal line situations. I also played fullback in a spring game when I was a junior and as part of my training I’m talking 50 to 100 hand offs a day to make sure that I get it down.”

Other teams besides the Patriots that have came in and looked at Ewing already are the New York Giants, Arizona Cardinals, and the Oakland Raiders.

Ewing is a Miami, Florida native and played linebacker in high school had a chance to go to the University of Miami and walk-on but decided that he wanted to get out of Florida.

“I had a chance to go to Miami and they would have given me part of a scholarship, but I had never been out of Miami, so I wanted to go somewhere else. I got a lot of offers for D-IAA schools as well as North Carolina and Jacksonville State. It was my plan to go to Jacksonville State and I told all the other schools that so they took the scholarships off the table,” said Ewing. “But then the head coach at Jacksonville State got fired so I end up going to Bryant.”

Ewing plans where to transfer to either TCU or Baylor because he wanted to go to a Christian school, but then he hurt his knee playing basketball so he decided to stay at Bryant. But Ewing still thinks he has the ability to make it at the next level, even with a position change.

“I think I have the ability to make it in the NFL because of my speed and my size and I plan to get bigger and faster before all my works out with the NFL scouts,” said Ewing. “I know FB Jammal Cook of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and he has been helping me get ready for the NFL.”
